Who's with me? I mean if someone wants to revive an old topic. Yeah I know they could create a brand new board but that just cludders things up.
Yes, if the subject already exists, why create it again. Just add to the existing one.
Well, because a subject that has a few dozen comments from years ago is pretty tedious to read. Starting over changes the discussion, lets new people in, and is faster to read. If you want to read posts from ten years ago, you can, but a current discussion is just bogged down by all those ancient posts. Just one opinion.
I agree with post 2
I actually never got the locking topic thing
if it was to save space, sure- i'd understand, but the topics arn't removed from the server, so I don't see the point at all
the only reason i can see locking a topic is if that topic is getting out of hand (lots of drama/ rude comments)
I agree with pasco here: opening up an entirely new discussion lets new people in, presents an entirely new way of having the discussion and keeps people from having to sift their way through a topic that's so llong that no one wants to finish reading it.
One can always link to a previous topic to catch people up if it's relevant. Sure it's an extra step, but how often are boards resurrected on here honestly? I've been around for almost .. gosh, almost nine years now? Wow - and I rarely see it. On the boards is pretty much all I do here.
I agree with post 4.
I don't really care about reviving old topics, personally. As has already been
said, very very few old topics have been revived over the years, and as was
stated, you can always start a new topic if you really really want to revive an
older one, and just link to the old topic so that people can read it and keep
up. However, I'm one of "those" people, who really can't be bothered re-
reading posts from 10+ years ago just so that I can refresh my memory on a
topic and start up the discussion again.
